Colour, vibrancy and emotion spill out of the screen and into your living room for an extraordinary experience! Subtle HDR colour blends, such as those in the dusk skies in Exodus: Gods And Kings, exhibit gentle colour banding, while out of the box, all the picture presets tend to crush out a little shadow detail information in the darkest areas (nudging the brightness up a couple of steps sorts this well, however). Each has its own specific features - viewing angles, color reproduction, response time, brightness/contrast, production cost, etc. And they’re complemeted at the other end of the spectrum by clear and equally detailed white tones - the Philips doesn’t use one of the most recent super-bright OLED panels enjoyed by pricier 2021 models from LG and Sony, but it’s capable of punchy and convincing contrasts nevertheless.

This huge brightness really doesn't last long - but then many of an HDR picture's very brightest elements are only onscreen for a brief period too. I'm very pleased with the sound quality of the speakers (it's my first oled TV so I can't compare it to any other TV).

It still looks impressive, despite not fully exploiting all the processing power at the TV's disposal. Philips has long been (in)famous for the thorough-going nature of its picture processing, and here the company has added both Film Detection and Ambient Light aspects to its already impressive AI processing.

Treble details, too, sound rounded and clear enough to hold their own against the bass, so that it doesn’t become overly dominant, plus there’s plenty of room for vocals to sound rich, warm and clear. A new Fast Motion Clarity black frame insertion option also delivers very natural looking motion, but only at the expense of a chunk of brightness.The OLED806 also handles near-black picture information superbly for such a relatively affordable OLED TV, avoiding fizzing and blocking noise in dark areas, and delivering smooth blends and plenty of subtle shadow detail (if the brightness is increased a couple of notches from its 50 default position, anyway). These lights are there, of course, to deliver Philips' unique Ambilight technology, which here casts coloured light out all around the TV to dizzying effect.
